Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

2020 Here We Come!

I'm in such a happy mood!

2020 here we come
What are we all running from...haha

Look at 2020 closely. What do you see?

I see two swans right next to each other, like these!

2020

I like numbers, especially when I can picture them somehow.

Moving right along..or swimming along..aren't they beautiful?

We had a resolution swap in church yesterday. We'd been planning it for quite some time, so everybody knew, but I had to remind them of how it would work:

It worked out great!

I picked the one that had everybody going, it was so funny, but I wanted to give it a try.
It was "To be able to do yoga."

So here I am!

I have to learn to keep my balance!
If you have trouble keeping your balance, too, let me know!

Happy New Year!

Christmas Wishes

The very merriest of holidays to all of my friends..

Ok, so some of us aren't going to be all that merry. I've been through all sorts of Christmases, I have to admit. There've been glorious ones where everything fell into place, decorations and lights just highlighting the good spirits flowing everywhere. Then, there are other Christmases that come along no matter how you feel and it's more ho-hum. We have no way of putting off the holidays until we're ready to embrace them or we're in the mood.

This year, I'm feeling some of it, but not like other years. If you're in the same boat, come join me! It's just the way it is.

Just because we're not ready to give the holidays our full attention and celebratory spirit, doesn't mean we don't want that for our friends. You deserve love, prayers and all good things.

Especially in the New Year. 2020..wow..those numbers even look cool and it hasn't even started yet.

Enough of my ramblings.

Sending love and kisses and best wishes for whatever Christmas you're feeling. We'll talk about the New Year later.

My lonely string of lights just shorted out the whole place, lol!

10 YEAR BLOGOVERSARY!

Yippee and Merry Christmas, everybody!

The housekeeper and I put together some photos from Christmas past to celebrate ten years on our blog!

In the past, our kitty manger has been a hit and still is. Back then, members of it were scared I'd step on them!

We still have the manger scene and the kitties. Put where I can't get to them!

Here we are in an older Christmas card - Bridget and me. Back then I consented to wear holiday apparel. Not so much anymore. This was her first Christmas and we happily posed together for our friends.

What would the holidays be without food? Yummies were also featured in past blog posts, and we would be remiss if we didn't include these!

I say this looks like a face, a laughing giant cookie! Bridget sniffs and walks away...wait, she's walking over to her dish, haha! This funny face gave her an appetite!

In closing, just want to share this with you:

Happy memories we cherish of those days gone by
Of friends so furry and bright blue skies
The clock is ticking, dawn to dusk going quicker
Yet friends remind us as those candles flicker
Of the warmth of purrs and contented sighs.

Thank you all!

Blanket Heaven

Hi, furry folks and Happy Monday!

I can sleep just about anywhere, but I do like variety. I don't know about you, but I get tired of cat beds, even though they're made to be so soft and comfy. I like to catch a nap on a windowsill after some outdoor entertainment, on a couch or chair to be close to the housekeeper, her bed when she's resting and even the floor in a sunlit path.

The other day she was wrapped up in a blanket and after getting up and going into the kitchen, it fell to the floor. Hmmm...something different. I decided I would try it out.

When she came back and saw me wrapped up in it, I heard all kinds of aaawwwwws and how cutes! It was funny, but I'm telling you, I had the. best. rest. ever!

It's that blanket for me from now on...

Trying to stay warm at home and in heart,
Tom

Go Away With That!

Holiday greetings, friends!

This time of year, some humans dress their pets.
Not my thing. I don't mean dressing my thing, I mean, it's just not appealing to this hefty, furry mancat in all of his Coon Cat glory and holiness. I think I've made my point, although it does sound kinda full of myself.

This is the most I'll do and it's grudgingly.

No jingle bells, red felt trousers, black belt....wait a minute, maybe having a black belt wouldn't be so bad...I'm thinking karate..*high kick with hind paws*

Anyhoo, we're busy here getting ready for the big day. The housekeeper took another job and I've been sorely neglected. She's tired, cranky and isn't loving me up the way she usually does.

What can you do to make me smile? I'll take cyber kisses and hugs!

Lackin' in lovin',
Tom

PS - Tabbies o troutowne - Sounds like Daisy's just like Bridget, so you can feel my pain, haha!!

What's Not Funny?

Hey, kids..furkids, that is!

Howyadoin'? I have a problem. I don't think my friend Bridget understands me. Or, at least, my sense of humor. I think the world around me is good for a lot of laughs, but she doesn't see it that way.

Here's a good for instance:

I like her and all, but she often either misses the point in our conversations or has no sense of what's funny, like with the car looking in the window. I wonder if that'll change over time as she gets to know me better, maybe?

Meanwhile, she is completely unaware that I can read her mind. I know EXACTLY what she's thinking. Heck, I think I'll find me a new girlfriend..

This one's awfully cute, though.
Maybe she's just pretending and is secretly enjoying my comment.
Maybe that's it!

Remember, furry friends:

A man who laughs always keeps a smile inside - (Ancient feline cave scratching)

Vets Who Had No Trouble Minding Their Own Business

Hey, boys and girls on this Veterans Day..

I know none of us cats are veterans of any conflict or war, but we have in our circle of friends and family a whole bunch of veterans representing the different branches of the military. The housekeeper talks about how all the branches are represented in her family except for the Coast Guard..I better be careful! She might put me in a uniform and throw me on a boat!

We want to honor those who served our country, but we also want to do something different this Veterans Day. Just a few minutes ago, we found out that about half of returning veterans after WWII went into business for themselves. Most of the time it was a bunch of them who got together and brainstormed. Along with that, we heard it was really tough to get back in the swing of civilian life after harrowing experiences overseas. They did make lasting friendships, though, with those who shared so much and still do so today.

Here's the article that lets us take a glimpse into the world of post-war entrepreneurships (sp?):
https://www.businessinsider.com/companies-started-by-military-veterans-2016-11 including Sam Walton's idea of a discount store...its name escapes me, hahaha!!

So hats off! For some, it'll be wallets out as we support those who decided to strike out on their own
after doing their country proud.

Proud to be an American
and God bless the USA,
Tom

Hats Off to This Annual Event!

Hello effuryone on this Monday as holidays are fast approaching.

This an important day today, one for thoughtful consideration of the planet we live on.

courtesy of the Cat Blogosphere

I can't help but think that so many of us around the world are conscious of how important our climate is and how we impact it and how it impacts us. At the same time, there are those who completely ignore this and we can't seem to knock it into their heads or those we join in this effort, are far too lenient when it comes to emissions and overall concern on the part of the population.

I know, pretty deep thinking for this old cat.

For instance, don't let India slide for the next three years, giving them until 2023 to clean up their act.
I think I remember their being given all that time by somebody-or-other. Too lenient.

As far as all the other peace-related topics-grudges, ignorance and politics get in the way of peace in other parts of the world.

That's as far as I'm going to stir that kettle of fish!

We entrust our leaders to respect our thoughts and wishes and act accordingly.

So there. National Election Day is tomorrow..I don't vote, but I'll ask any human reading this that we can easily tie today and tomorrow together.

Over and out,
Peace
Tom

Helloween..Yes, That's Right!

Hi, guys!

This week contains one of the most dreaded, hated, feared, and useless (in my opinion) holidays ever..it's not a holiday, it's more like a scourge on the earth..
Let me explain..

It's Halloween. I don't like it. Never have. It's okay to be creeped out in the movies or by a scary story, but to celebrate creepiness, I don't think so. Around here, it gets intense since the housekeeper sticks around past her thank-cod-she's-gone time and gets candy and cupcakes for the priests ready. Just a heads up: there's no pumpkin-shaped cat kibble for us, so that ticks me off, too.

So, here are some creepy-themed posts which get into the spirit of things, but on a much more sane level:

This is me in fictional Lilliput where I'm big and scary, haha! (I wonder if they play miniature golf in Lilliput and if they call it putt-putt, lol!)

Then, of course, there's me in the light of candles...ssshhhh..Don't move! Someone or some-thing just opened the door behind me..!!

The ultimate disguise..here I'm Inspector Perrot, the inimitable sleuth's sleuth..! Easy for me to say, hehe

So, these are my Halloween thoughts and how I look at the durn event. What I suggest is finding that special quiet spot that evening, a closet, tucked away on a shelf or under the bed and just sleep the night away. For humans, more used to this sort of activity, if you don't have visitors, read a good scary thriller or watch a movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Ever curled up in peaceful slumber,
Tom

It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This!

To all my furry friends!

Happy Monday! The start of a new week and it's the week before All Hallows Eve..and what some people are calling Beggars Night. You dress up, go around to neighbors and you have to tell a joke before you get any candy..Hey, it works! Kinda like when we go outside and we go up to a house where a cat lover lives and we get a nice snack, and we don't even have to tell a joke or anything!

Anyhoo, this week I want to talk about how much I like to be pampered. It's the ultimate in sigh-tisfying pleasure for a cat with the sort of floof that needs lovin' like mine. The housekeeper gets my favorite comb and goes for the bib first, then the sides of my head, between the ears and slowly down the back. Just talking about it gives me shivers of joy!

There's a lot of fur that comes off with any combing session which usually lasts about 15 to 20 minutes,  along with cooing and head scratches from the housekeeper, the whole nine yards. Another good thing, too, is we catch those pesky mats before they catch up with me!

Hope you all have a good week and set aside some time for the person you love to spoil you by a happy brushing or combing and..let me see, something about releasing endor-fins? (but that sounds fishy to me!)

Furs furrever,
Tom

Columbus & His First Mate

Hiyo! How's everybody? Sorry to wake you. I know it's afternoon. Today may as well be Saturday or Sunday..I'm finding myself snoozing more than usual..

We're celebrating Columbus Day here in the good old US of A. The day we celebrate the discovery of  America by Christopher Columbus in 1492. My recollection of that time is kinda fuzzy now. All I remember is we got lost or something and that was when it all started for men to never ask for directions since everything worked out, anyhoo.

He always had a hankering to be out to sea. Salt water taffy, not so much. I was his best first mate, the compass rose he gave me attached to my collar (isn't it cool?). He wasn't overly religious, but on board ship I heard him using a few swear words that involved God when it came to his crew. When he wasn't sailing the ocean blue, he would sit on a rock, I would sit on his shoulder, and we would fancy ourselves out on the waves headed somewhere.

(courtesy of Wikipedia)
So, anyhow, if we wind up in your neck of the woods, I'll look you guys up and we can have a grand old fish fry. I know I'll be looking forward to that and seeing you all!

That's it for now. Captain Chris is giving me the high sign that we're about to shove off.

Anchors aweigh!
Tom

Let's Leave the Leaves for Just a Minute!

Where are you??? Oh, wait...under all the leaves! I stopped counting after seventy-five zillion two hundred billion elebenty-one trillion. It pooped me out!

I found myself thinking of summer and what a good one it was for window whiffies and sunshine and little bugs that came to say hello, knowing I'm just an old softie, not about to bother them. They know it, too! Even at night when the moths come around, I just watch and wonder why the light draws them so, but then, maybe it's like us with the sun. Good thing we can't get too close!

Anyway, back to summer and those good memories! This was a particularly fine day. There was just the right amount of breeze, my furs warmed up real nice and a ladybug was telling me all about her grandbugs..okay, maybe not..

Do you have good memories of a sunny summertime?

Furry happy,
Tom

No Trespassing!

Hi, furry folks!

I ask you - do I have to put up a sign to preserve my space and keep it from intruders? I know my friend Bridget doesn't consider herself an intruder, but in this case, she was.

The rectory has a loft area with a nice, cozy corner spot where I get away from it all and sleep. Well, this intrusive varmint discovered it and rousted me out! The nerve! And look at her expression - no remorse whatsoever and no apology!

I made it clear that I didn't like it one bit, but it didn't matter. She oozed victorious, maxed out in triumphant and took such perverse pleasure in her discovery and my disappointment in her.

Anyway, I'll get past this and get to snooze another day, only I'll have to find someplace else.

Hope you all have a special place to rest and not be bothered by other cats or humans, where one can snooze and dream in peace!

Searching for a place to stretch and unfurl my furs,
Tom

Let's Take the Long Way to Winter!

Hi, effurrybody -

Well, Monday's almost over and the housekeeper and I just plum forgot....ahem..it's the only post we do all week, you would think...

But, what am I suppose to do? I can't type on a keyboard, but she can, under my direction, of course. Maybe someday they'll make a keyboard for cats, but I wouldn't hold my breath. The keys would have to be paw-sized and all.

Today is the first official day of autumn, and I get to watch leaves come down off the trees, birds, cats, and humans enjoying the cooler weather, and more cooking smells coming out of the kitchen like soups and stews, with the housekeeper always willing to give me a sample! (Why I don't stay mad long)

So, on this first day, here's something I post every year. An invitation to join me as we sit to ponder or nap. Let's just leave room for a human or two..!

Maybe we'll see some fishies in the water!

Don't Have My Own Billboard, So..

Hi, effurryone!

Hope all's well with all of you -

I like this blog since I get to go into more detail about my thoughts and feelings. Recently, I had this great idea to send messages via my scratcher! Would you believe it?

This way, I make it clear I am NOT to be disturbed unless there's a real emergency.

Sometimes I get a little carried away. What the heck - I'm a cat and one known for my feisty reputation, and I have to make sure I live up to that!

So, anyway...what message would you put on your scratcher for your human?

Have fun and tune in next time,
Tom

Hoochie-Coochie on Gotcha Day

My Gotcha Day was this weekend and, as usual, the housekeeper went overboard.

I had so much nip, I can't be accountable for what I did or said. Someone claimed I did a crazy dance to this guy playing, but they could be exaggerating. I don't remember a thing.

What I do remember is my arrival at the rectory and online six years ago on the 7th of September.
That's what I've been told. My pocket calendar got lost somewhere along the way!

A lot of fuss, but a milestone on the best move I ever made in my entire life. It's no fun wandering the streets, not knowing where your next meal is coming from, whether you'll get chased and scared, or whether someone will actually be kind. You just never know. I ate a baby snake once, I was so hungry.

Anyway, you'll excuse me while I catch up on my sleep. I thank the Man Upstairs that this craziness only comes around once a year. As I get older, I can stand the celebrations less and less.

Have you Gotcha Days coming up? If you do, go easy on the nip and pay no attention to ladycats who promise you hearts and flowers. If you're a ladycat, just because he has a motorcycle, doesn't mean you have to kickstand your heart!

Love y'all bunches!

Tom

Reminiscing on Labor Day

Happy Labor Day!

Oh, boy - when I look back!!

It's been quite the ride, this clerical adventure. Here I am, a cat priest with Walter Mitty-type adventures, sometimes going back in time to the days of Washington or, for Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims' meal with the Indians. It's fun imagining myself there, having a bit of undocumented New World moonshine and food dropped by hungry attendees. See me? (Bottom right-hand corner)

Then, there was this - totally unexpected and made me all happy inside!

Then, I awoke. Darn!

I tried thinking of me with William Tell and the arrow through the apple on my head, but I figured even with my imagination, it would just be too dangerous!!

On the home front, I became friends with Bridget de la Furr who doesn't travel with me back in time, but sure makes herself known in my present life. Both in a good way and bad. She can be a real pain in the neck, but she's my friend, so I overlook her faults. (She's the one with her paws over my tag line so it reads "Cat turned pest." See what I mean?

Hope you have a good holiday! Not much going on here and as far as labor is concerned, that applies only when I feel like it. Typical feline, eh?

Celebrating the sweat of my brow,
Tom

What Goes Up Must Come Down

Hi, furry folks!

The rectory is getting painted this week, starting today, so this entry will be short. I have to snoopervise from my window to make sure everything goes according to plan. The housekeeper is a wreck, but will no doubt make it festive. I'm surprised she hasn't baked anything for them, but she has provided the men with sparkling water in case they get thirsty. It's hard work!

All this fuss has made me super conscious of the inside of the house, too. There's a loft ladder that will take you up to where things are stored and I like to go up there and sleep. Going up is the easy part, especially for us cats, but the hard part is having to come back down.

I always get dizzy!

Actually, it's not too bad. I always forget about the coming down part when I'm anticipating a nice, long nap in a corner to curl up in. For the longest time, nobody knew where I was. That was so funny!

Hope you all have a good week ahead!

Off to nestle in my hidden nest,
Tom

Nine Lives? All I Need is One

How many times have I heard this thing about nine lives!

And there are all kinds of myths and legends about where it came from..like from Bast, a Celtic goddess (sounds good to me!) and that nine is a magical number and something about witches changing back and forth from cat to witch and back to cat again. That one's got me. Can you imagine..? Do they use phone booths like Superman? Or do they go to dress shops and really change in the fitting room? Inquiring cats want to know...!

As for me, I was a stray and had a few close calls, but I found myself a good home where there's always food and plenty of attention. Sometimes there's too much, but I have escape routes and do duck and cover, ha!

Now, if I have any lives left, I'll just pass the extras along to anycat who might need them. Sound good?

I'll stick with what I've got. I only need one now and this one's pretty darn good!

Contented down to my toes,
Tom

We"re Baaaaack!!!

Hello, effurrybody and the guy in the red satin tux..(I don't know who he is. Besides, I just made him up!)

I missed everybody while our computer was down. It was like a member of the family had to go to the hospital. I guess staying at a tech place for a few days to get repaired is like the same thing.

Here's how I initially reacted to the news that everything was getting back to normal:

I know. I can be an ass.

But, after I thought about it, I got really excited.

I did miss you guys and I'm happy to be back on here, ready to read your comments and let me know how you're doing! (I'll come visit, too - I'll even call first...just kidding!)

Son of a Buzzard

Hi, everybody and all the ships at sea!

That first line has absolutely nothing to do with what I'm posting here today,
but I thought it had a nice ring to it.

I'll get right to the subject of our conversation. A certain feathered creature is driving me nuts. I won't show the hellish nuisance here, because that's just what that attention-seeking, loud, tree-perching son of a buzzard wants.

I'm sure you get the idea when I show you what he looks like:

Yes, a C-R-O-W..a Cat Razzing Overly Wicked bird.

Whoever drew him tried to sweeten it all up with flowers and a key, but let me tell you - crows don't keep their beaks closed long enough to hold anything! They squawk and squawk up in my trees and all my menacing looks just don't work! I'm at my wit's end!

If any of you have any suggestions on how to deal with them, let me know. The housekeeper will occasionally throw out some old bread and that has to stop! But, I don't think that's it. Maybe they have something to say to me? Bird is not a second language for me, unfortunately.

Trying to stay unflappable,
Tom

Lunar Logic

I'm always thinking.

For a cat, that's not a bad thing. There are some of us who believe in total action. Climbing here, clawing there, purring at all sorts of things.

I've always liked the expression "Love you to the moon and back" which is something that peeps have come up with.

Some peeps actually think it's too limiting. Why stop there? Keep going, mate and really express your feelings!!

Others ask why we don't just stop at the moon. It still conveys the sentiment. Besides, there was a lunar landing which peeps are celebrating. Any lunar trip is pretty special no matter how you look at it, I guess.

Here's my version just for us cats, having absolutely nothing to do with the moon at all.

We love in our own way.

Besides, there's too much love traffic going back and forth to the moon, anyway.

Cool Stuff..Kinda, Sorta, Maybe

Guess what!

I made a discovery just yesterday.
Did you know when you go to type "LOL" but you're at the wrong keys next to it, it comes out "KIK?"

Silly, I know, but I had to tell you. That's in case you didn't know already. Inquiring minds need to be satisfied, right?

And here's something: This weird happening with the housekeeper's and my silhouettes on the wall.

Now, I was in the far window and the sun, as bright as it was, cast my shadow on the far wall opposite. The housekeeper couldn't leave well enough alone. She had to stick her head up while sitting on the couch. Anyway, it looks like we're cuddling and I'm bigger than she is, KIK!!!!!

Shadows are fun, but this is just another instance where I notice the cool stuff and have to be the one to point it out.

Next time you're sunbathing, see if a shadow is sitting behind you!

Next time I'll be Batman,

Housekeeper Gets Wigged

Hey, guys -

You're not gonna believe what happened. The housekeeper is so mad!
I've never seen her this crazy and here, I thought I was doing her a favor.

You see, it's shedding season right now. I'm gagging on my fur when I groom myself, throwing up furballs all over the place. The housekeeper felt sorry for me and started giving me major brushings and combings and before you know it, there's this pile of fur. And, that's not even all of it. There's a mat I wouldn't let her near. Too ticklish. So, there'll be more.

Can you believe all this came from my hide? I swear I'm ten pounds lighter.

She said she would send it off to a place that turns fur into yarn and get a sweater made. I thought that was great; I thought we could stuff a pillow and make a nice soft one. But, before I made that suggestion, I had a funny thought.

But I didn't tell her.
I started to giggle...

Listen! Yeah! It could be a wig! A wig for the housekeeper! I can see this pile on her head now, hahahaha!!
She must have sensed I was up to no good and got all mad. She thinks I'm laughing at her. Well, most of the time, I am.

Hey, all seriousness aside, if you think it'll make a nice wig, you let me know, ok? I want to donate it to a worthy cause and her head is as good as anything I can think of.

Sincerely flipping over a wig,
Tom

Stir Crazy

Hi!!!!!

When rabbits decide to get on airplanes, where do they fly out of??

O'HARE!!!

Silly me.

So, howya been?

I'm just trying to keep my sanity. The idea of taking a trip has me thinking. Do you ever get bored with the same routine day after day? Even though our humans do everything they can to make us happy, give us toys, places to sleep and climb and open the windows for heavenly whiffies, it can get a little depressing.

It was raining. Of course, that doesn't help and even though I stay on church grounds, I don't go out when pelting raindrops muss my furs. So one rainy day, I made it a point to log in my activity. Boy, was it dull! Windows closed, no sun and nothing special. Even people don't come to visit. Smells 24 hours old can get dull. So, there's not even that.

Sometimes I spice things up in my mind with a little creative imagination about where I might be or who I might be, but that doesn't happen all the time and I share with you most of that stuff. Here's a perfect example..me a race car driver winning races and smelling good for the ladies!

Vroooom! Vroooom!

This is the life!

How do you spice ...ahem, up rainy days??

Smelling manly,
Tom

Nocturnal Can Mean Creepy

Hi, gang!

The housekeeper had to paint today so i had absolutely no help with my blog, so I was stuck. It wasn't until now, the end of the day that we - and I use that term loosely - are getting it done.

I - maybe I did put her off with this subject - am nocturnal. That doesn't mean I'm adept at composing classical music like a nocturne or anything like that. It means I roam around and get into stuff when everybody's asleep.

I have free reign with nobody to stop me, tell me to get off the counters, off the top of the armoire, finish my food, and it's quiet except for night sounds. Yep, nighttime is a whole 'nother world. I catch glimpses from the window of animals I don't see around during the day. As long as I don't see two-legged ones looking back at me!

I am totally aware of everything around me. I don't miss a thing, day or night.

Want to fill me in on what goes on at your house when everyone's asleep?

Through a house darkly,
Tom

Have an excitin' week, my furriends and grab those instants for all they're worth!!

Adrenalinly yours,
Tom

Sniff an Angel Good Morning

Hi, everybody!

If it weren't for services on Sundays, I wouldn't know it was Monday. Even then, I get forgetful.
Here I am, after lunch - my lunch of turkey and salmon and it just occurred to me I hadn't done my post for today.

So, here goes.

Even though I didn't do a post, doesn't mean I haven't been thinking. Yes, indeed, we cats do think, ponder, reflect, even empty our brains meditate.

I was thinking about angels the other day. There's a whole slew of them in the church and I didn't really notice them until my friend Bridget brought up the subject. Only thing is, she doesn't know how to behave around them.

You don't sit on their heads and sniff.
I listened in horror as she admitted to doing that and here's proof. She says they smell like bumblebees and baby lotion. At least this one did. I didn't even notice.

I prefer to cuddle and snooze.

I have to know - are there any angels in your life?

Angelic at all times,
Tom

Innard Relief

Hey, kitties!

Do you ever find yourself obsessing about one thing, not realizing it until you look back?

It was that way with me all last week, obsessing about what I put into my innards to make everything work better. To show you what I mean, here's an example:

Grass is good for the digestion and, just to let you know, I gummed my way through this right after the photo was taken!!

Then, there's soft butter with yogurt which I have a dab of every morning to grease my innards.

Good thing. The cat box isn't exactly the most fun place to hang out!

Hope your week has you smooth sailing!

Mancat Memorial Day Thoughts

Hi, catguys and catgals,

Today is Memorial Day and the housekeeper and I were looking around the photos and graphics we've collected over the years and came across a few featuring our own stars and stripes. One had me with a peace sign on my collar and there was another which featured a political statement. I didn't want to use either one.

Here is my favorite, paws down of me sleeping on a rather old colonial version of our flag when our population wasn't all that big and our war casualties hadn't added up quite so much.

Prompting this thought I want to share.

I looked up this guy and he's a Scottish journalist. I respect his comment and find it's so very true.

To all who have given the ultimate sacrifice and to those whose memories confirm Mr. Massie's sentiment, we send our prayers and our thanks.

Have a blessed Memorial Day.

Tom
