Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

Wisdom Like A Bolt of Lightning

Hi, everybody!

The start of another week, and I got to thinking how often I come up with pearls of wisdom that people seem to like. Hey, don't underestimate us cats! We don't wag tails and pant. (My dog friends...don't growl!) We think. We ponder. Just because we don't have a pad and pencil to write our thoughts down doesn't mean they don't exist. Honestly!

Here's one, for instance (It was "think," but we know that already):

Another quote from me (actually, I have to give credit to the housekeeper, although she won't like it. She gets so silly!):

"I'll keep looking for what I'm looking for."

And, a couple to share from the church bulletin:

What do you think, my friends?

Have a good week! See you in February!

Make A Wish!

Hi, everybody!

Today is a special occasion. Not only is it typically Mancat Monday, but it's also the housekeeper's birthday! I don't know how old she is, but she tells me the big reveal will come after she's 90!

Her wish? I asked her that because wishes on one's birthday are really important.

She said she wants me healthy and happy for a long, long time. I want this wish to come true, too!

So, to celebrate we broke out the balloons and I'm offering free rides..any takers??

Have a good week!

Cake...?? Nipcake?? Let's celebrate!

Monday, Monday

Monday knows following two days of r&r is a hard act to follow.

So what does it do? It gets mean. It doesn't care what anybody thinks.

Mondays don't want to be liked.

Okay..so now I have an explanation. That's my job as a cat priest. To explain the world around me as I see it. What do you think?

This is just one of my many musings when I'm in that in-between state, when you're not quite awake and you're not asleep, either.

I think I'll return to the land of slumber that I love. My own philosophizing always makes me sleepy, anyhow.

Later!

Have a good week, friends!

Tom

My Good Life

Is it Monday already?

I'm just getting over the big Sunday we had yesterday. Everybody loves our parish. Some people come to see me and hear  a groovy sermon which is thankfully short, although I do get lap time with some folks. Others come not because they're religious or anything, but to appreciate a communal worship and down-to-earth people to hang out with. Hey, it's the truth. I know everybody leaves feeling a little better about the world in general and their world in particular.

Monday for me is a day for grooming. And, who do I turn to? None other than Bridget. For a cat, she wears many hats. She has studied law, the sciences and went to grooming school. That last part is where I come in.

So, who cares if she knows why the sky is blue or the legal rights of left-handed poker players?
All I care about is this little grooming ritual we have which includes:

Whispering sweet nothings!

And the ever-so-comforting cleansing of the furs!

This all takes a good, steady and loving forever, it feels like.
Now you know and I sure do - how lucky I am!

Especially since we always cuddle after!

Here's hoping you have someone who makes you feel loved.
