Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

Sock-tober!

Socks come and they go. When they go, they never do it in pairs. Have you ever noticed that?

Here this poor sock has been abandoned by its partner in the laundry, destined to be either a poor match for another, or fall into the hands of a questionable character who will only wear one sock at a time.

But, hold the tears! The toe can be filled with nip, the sock tied in the middle, the sides cut to the knot..

and the sock becomes a great cat toy!

Of course, I'm the quality control tester for this purrototype and its efficiency as a nip holder, a stretchy thing good for pulls and...excuse me, just a minute

I'm back. As I was saying, if you're ever out of toys or the ones you have just won't do, get the cat priest special, the one size nips all, sock turned toy and see all the fun you can have!

Why does just one sock disappear? That is a question the Universe can't answer. I love your solution ... no more lonely, solo socks in our house... nip toys for one and all from now on.

What an excellent idea Tom. There is always a flowing supply of orphan socks at Everycat Towers, our joy will become their orphanage. The ape has been instructed, the nip ordered.

Great idea! Too bad this granny cat doesn't play with toys, other than slippers.

It's a great idea, Tom! Baby socks are good for that too, since they're so small.

Happy Friday and happy weekend!

A pair of socks can only have one purpose, but a sock on its own? The possibilities are endless! Enjoy your weekend, Tom!

Good idea pal. You are so smart. You must have gone to school.

Wonderful times they can have with a single sock. Years back we were always trying to think of things to sell to raise money for our local animal shelter. I was on the volunteer list at the time and I went into the thrift stores and bought up all the baby socks. We filled the toe part with nip and tied them with cute ribbons. We filled a basket and sold them at a fundraiser. They were a big hit. Your post just reminded me of this and now I should make some for my kitties at home.
Cute photos. Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x4

Very cute - I have seen these before donated to local shelters for the cats but have never made them for my own cats....of course, they are never hurting for toys. :)

What a great idea! We have SO MANY single socks! It seems like we lose two or three socks per load of laundry!

That is such a good idea with the sock. We sure are going to try that.
We sure would appreciate some strong prayers for Mahoney. We don't think her paws are broken but she might have some virus that makes her joints hurt. So any help would be so appreciated. Thanks and hope all of you have a great week end.

What a great use for an old sock with a hole and no partner. When Indiana was a puppy she was given an old sock and then thought every sock was hers to play with which meant tons of socks under the bed. Thank goodness for the most part hat has stopped and I don't have mountains of missing socks under the bed.

Tom, you gots it right! Funny thing, a few years ago when Mumsy started making odd sock nip toys for us, all of a sudden she was finding more odd socks! We just can't understand it. (If you ever need any tips on how to break into the laundry room, just let us know *wink-wink*.)

Thank you for the very kind comment you left for our Mumsy and how understanding. You put a biggie smile on her face. She send you (((hugs))).
