Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

She Loves Me

Would you look at this desk! Besides me on it, note the picture of yours truly, framed and right where Julie can look at it every day. She also has the big black and white photo in the living room. Can you believe it? (Vinny's in the kitchen).

Julie tells the story of how whenever she was getting to the part about me in the manuscript I would always come out of nowhere and jump up and get in her face, interrupting her train of thought. How could I interrupt? It was all about me, anyway, right? Actually, I wanted to make sure there were no mistakes or misspellings..

It's awfully cold out and we're going to be getting more snow and even more snow tomorrow. Reminds me of when I was a stray during the winter months. It was no fun, believe me! The Maine Coon fur really did keep me warm though. Being homeless was also the time I took a hankerin' to corn on the cob and other strange food 'cause I used to get so hungry.

Everybody stay warm and say a lot of purrs and prayers for those who don't have a home and are looking for a kind soul to take them in, or at least provide a warm place to rest.

We're purring for All Beings, Tom. We're getting a blizzard tomorrow too, and we know there are a lot of homeless four-leggeds out there who, we hope, will find shelter. The mom feeds a couple of ferals here (or at least one feral for sure, not sure about the other) and has a shelter out on her step, but they don't use it. We hope they'll be okay!

We hope you all stay safe and warm too!

That's a very handsome photo, Mr. Father Tom! But of course it is - it's of YOU! Life on the streets is No Good for any living creature. It makes us sad. We're thinking about those out there in this very cold, snowy weather and hope they all find some shelter and food and water. Purrs to you and yours, Sir.

Oh yes, Tom, we are purring and holding paws in prayers for all the living things outside in this weather. We worry about them all the time because there was a time when we were in the same circumstance. It's no fun at all. But you know what? Sam has strange food likes just like you, and for the same reason, too. He just loves spicy nacho cheese chips, potato chips, and sandwiches of any kind. If it's edible, he'll go for it. Gotta watch your plate carefully around him.
Well, Tom, I hate to go home now and leave your lovely self, but Sam is calling and he's got the feather wand and waiting. I think I'll hide his mouse; that should drive him totally crazy.
BIG ol' nose lick to you, you handsome devil...opps, angel :) xoxoxo

Oh, Father Tom, I am so glad you found such a warm and loving place. I told my kitties to do some major purring tonight for all their homeless furiends and you can be sure I have my paws crossed too. It sounds like a really bad storm.

It's not fun to be walking the streets, especially when it's cold out. I'm thankful dat we all have good homes now and wish the same for those still left out on the streets. Stay safe Tom - M says it's a nasty storm.

We're lucky too because we are inside and only hafta look at all this snow and cold. We are purring for all the outside animals and hope they are okay...even the evil squirrels.

I am sure glad you have a nice, warm home now. No one should be outside in this weather. Though the corn on the cob sounds kind of yummy. I know, I have weird tastes for a doggie.

Your pal, Pip
