Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

Guilty Party Selfie

Hi, Friends!!

Hope your Christmas was fun, filling (with super duper food) and fabulous! We had none of those...just kidding! Because of the pandemic, there was a cloud over things, but we can look forward to the New Year to change all that.

Last Christmas, we received an ottoman as a gift, just because. (Nothing received of note this year, mostly sardines, catnip and toys..ho-hum) Anyway, right after we got it, the housekeeper saw claw marks on it and went berserk. Now, my esteemed cat friend who-I have-no-choice-but-to-live-with-who-gives-me-unnecessary-baths was caught red-pawed, digging her claws in. Okay, it's not leather, but still, like a kind of vinyl that looks like leather. Well, apparently it passed the leather test with Bridget and she wanted to leave her mark(s).

So,  now we can't see the ottoman at all because it's covered in a blanket. And, the guilty party has set herself right on top of it as if nothing happened.

She is vile and disgusting. She claims all innocence but WE know better!!!

Leaving our happy home and turning now to the New Year ahead, we all wish you the very best in the coming months, good health and much happiness and...no clawmarks!!

Purrs,

Tom, Bridget & Penny xoxoxo

Not vile and disgusting...just a normal cat, with claws that need exercise, Tom!
Easy now, big fella!

Happy New Year sweet friends! Hey, we have a towel covering my ottoman too.

She is no doubt waiting for that blanket to come off so she can continue decorating it!

Sometimes you just have to cover things. Bridget obviously thought it would look better with a pattern. Happy New Year to all of you and hoping 2021 will be much better.

Glad to hear about the ottoman (sorry housekeeper) because we go through couches like most families go through kleenex! We now have regular appointments at Goodwill for new couches which we clean and cover with blankets before being brought in the house. Such is life with cats, wouldn't change a thing - MOL! Happy New Year everyone!

Someone did that here, too, Tom, to our table chairs. Our mom has just about given up on having anything uncatted!

We think that was her plan all along. Claw it so it gets covered with a comfy warm blanket to lay on.

Dad used to worry about the claws but then went to leather and it just gets little marks. Not like the old couch that spilled its guts after a few years. The leather one we love and so does Dad.

Tell us how you really feel about her, Tom! HAH! Happy New Year! Watch, though, once the pandemic is over, we'll never see our humans again. They'll be going all over the place.

Happy New Year, sweet friends.

All of our furniture has blankets over it, too. MOL

Good health and much happiness right back at you, too. You know, part of my get-up-in-the-chair-with-mom routine starts with a brief fabric-clawing session, which I'm allowed since mom's chair is so old, but when dad got his new chair and I tried this all holy hell broke loose on me! Seriously, it did. I never saw dad screech like an old lady before. So, now they keep a diet cola 12 pack container, flattened, up against where I clawed. Hrmmph. Humans. Anyhoo, Happy New Year!

Oh no, Bridget was just too tempted by the new leather-like ottoman. We have a dining room table that will never see the light of day. Funny how we all get things to enjoy but then end up covering them because of household claws!
