Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

On the Lookout

Hi, friends!

This is THE week for expecting....

1. My Chewy shipment!

2. The housekeeper will hear yay or nay on a job. How DARE she! Isn't taking care of us
enough for her? Noooo....! The nerve!

3. Hearing about our roof exactly when we can rip off the *%$#@## old one, leaking and
have a new one put on.

4. I get off the chicken stew stuff I had to eat for two full weeks for my crystals. Yay! Now I don't
have to sneak food off Bridget's dish.

So, we have a lot coming up! The excitement never ends..!

See us bracing ourselves? Hahaha!! 👀

We'll make Penny keep vigil at the window..especially for the chow!

We'll keep you posted..

Have a good Fourth, everybody!

Oh, No...

Oh, widdle-dee-dee and woe is me
It's Monday morn and I can see
Friends bracing themselves for another week
Bridget in charge?!! Time for hidey-hole to seek!

That's the extent of my creativity, taking all of my energy. I'm ready to pass out.

I've decided I'm putting Bridget in charge of the week coming up,
perched on her favorite step, overseeing all the activity and making
sure everything meets her high standards...I know, it can be a bit much, but
the housekeeper is out of control and Penny comes up with too many wisecracks!

So, I have no choice.
Bridget'll be watching!!!

She's sitting on the steps leading up to the attic, one of her favorite places, especially this past winter when she hung out there to catch unsuspecting mice. Can you believe this sweet face would carry a struggling mouse in her mouth?
I know, me neither.

I'd rather see her play.

But..this week it's all business.

She'll make sure the next stretch of days turns out okay and that, my friends, is a big responsibility!

So until the next Mancat Monday, don't drop your kibble, remember to cuddle and don't make a puddle!! Hehe

This 'n That

Sorry, guys *flies into the room*

We have so much going on I don't know whether to poop or go blind...

We're waiting to hear from the vet on what's going on with me. I'm paying too much attention to my privates..and I don't mean Army, either, LOL! Anyway,  have to make light of it until we know how serious to take all this stuff.

I thought I'd do an update on everybody..

Bridget's fine, cuddles when she feels like it. Picks on me when she's in one of her moods. I think somebody said something about "tortitude." I guess that's what it is. It does try my patience though.

And, I'll have you know I do get the back end of things a lot with no comment. Hard to know where you stand under these circumstances.

Then, there's Penny. Always wants to know what I'm doing, but won't approach. Tends to hiss. The housekeeper says it's been almost a year and is keeping doors open so Penny can come forward and talk to Bridge and me. She says it's time, hissing or not.

She's not after one of us here, just a toy birdie.

Just trying to hang in.

Is it Friday yet?

Wish I Had Her Energy!

Hi, efurrybody!

Another week, another Monday and full steam ahead!

Penny eats as much as we do, but keeps her slim fizzeek. It's pretty amazing. She's also full of the kind of energy I wish I still had. Oh, I'll play and all, but snoozing is definitely preferable over chasing a toy mouse!

Here she is, ready to pounce! A big gulp of windowsill whiffies and the mouse doesn't stand a chance!

And the knock-'em-dead bunny kicks!

I'm glad I'm not that mouse! (Or, is it a bird, can't tell, lol!)

 Hi, Mancat Mondayers!!

Heck, I almost forgot to post! I hope I'm not losing my mind!

It's Memorial Day, 2021 and it's raining, cold and quiet. It's great for a nap, so Bridget, Penny and I probably will sleep most of the day. A friend reminded the housekeeper and fellow humans that our thoughts on this day of remembrance really should go on all the time. I agree. There are those who fought, those who died and the VA hospital is full of those who won't ever forget their own experiences in war.

Here's to dreams of a better world!

And, here's Penny.

She says, "Where there's cuteness, there's hope!"

Absolutely, I say!

Something Nice and New

Hi, furriends ~

That's right. New isn't always a good thing, but when someone says nice and new, that's different.

What's nice and new is my header. And, dear ones, there's a story behind it. The quote from me that I've added was the first thing out of my mouth when I became a cleric. There isn't anything in the Bible that I don't comment about. Now, it looks to me like five loaves would be more than enough for little old me. The two fishes? Perfect!

Back to the story and the miracle so all those people could have a nice lunch. Water gets turned into wine...(I wonder if the wine was watery!?)  Anyway, on top of that, all the loaves were multiplied because people back then didn't bring a lunch and Happy Harry's Mobile Weinie & Burger Heaven never made it..

I try to be respectful of what's contained in the Holy Book, but scenarios like this are just too tempting and besides, it's all the housekeeper's fault. She puts ideas into my head.

So,  I have a new header. It's almost like I have a new outfit.

Bada-bing!

PS - Last week Timmy Tomcat Cusack mentioned something about eye pressure since I talked about my glaucoma. Hope you don't have the same problem I have, pal. Take care.

A Closer Look: An Eye With a Veil Over It

 Hello, furriends ~

It's a new week and I'm wondering if I'm the only one who has thoughts like "I wonder what this week will bring. What will happen either in my world or everybody else's?"

Anyway, I'm told I'm a deep thinking cat. I just don't want to overdo it or else I'm not a cat anymore. I'll leave the problems of humans to them.

One thing I do have to deal with is my bad eye. The housekeeper has to order more meds for it. Two things are happening: I have a milky eye from a cataract (even though there's the word "cat" in the term, very few cats get this - lucky me!!) and I also have glaucoma, so eye pressure is an issue. Can't get too high or I'll go blind. Good thing I have a good, healthy cat-nose!!

You can kinda see it here in this photo. (I have a better one, but it's a little too graphic)

Now, the other kitties, Bridget and Penny don't have any health issues, but as all cat lovers know, that changes sometimes real fast and gets really scary. I'm the oldest and I have to set an example of how to handle this sort of stuff. Just in case they get sick.

So, a reorder of meds this week, burrito bundles so I don't freak out when the drops hit and usually a meal or treats after. I've kinda gotten used to the routine, but I still don't like it.

Enjoy your Monday as we kick off another week and remember, fellow kitties, we're in all this together.

Meow!
