Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

Mish-Mash Monday

Hi, kitty friends!

Just this second, I got a wild hair.

Not knowing what I would write this post on, I decided to grab any photo in my ginormous collection and write something off the cuff, or pawcuff..using my wild imagination.

Are you guys game?

Here we go:

These "S" scratchers are a great invention. Do you have one? They are so comfy! If'n I had to choose between a king's throne and this scratcher, the scratcher would win claws down!!

It was invented, I heard, by a dyslexic inventor by the name of Otto Slevich (hence the S) who loved writing his name, but always had trouble with the S. Even after he grew into adulthood, would write it backwards. Well, that troublesome situation inspired this scratcher which is okay with the S either backwards or right-ways..I like it backwards, as you can tell. He loved cats, so it was an easy invention for him and Mr. Slevich grew very rich. He's still getting money for the patent which makes him patently a genius in my book!

Wasn't that fun?

Let me know your favorite scratching appawratus!

Thank you for reading!
TOM

My boys don't like scratchers. They are weird. Although, Iketani has ruined a couch.

Tom, I didn't know that about the s-shaped scratcher!
We have only flat scratchers around, and Sweetie prefers the throw rug anyhow.
Chili actually drew blood from The Hubby over the weekend; poked a nice hole in his wrist! No worries; it's already mostly healed, but boy oh boy, you'd have thought a tiger had clawed him up and down! Men are such big babies...

We had one that lasted many years. Many poses done on it. Too expensive to get another today. Great photo Tom, 😺.

That was interesting to learn. My poor boys must have been deprived as they never had an S scratcher. They had a favourite oak tree they used most of the time.

For the LONGEST time my Mom wanted to get me one of those scratchers...then...one year she won one of those really nice huge ones (can't remember the name off hand) and she was upset that I NEVER USED IT. She ended up giving it to her stepdaughter who has kitties (it is a real popular scratcher that many bloggers have and it is huge).......after that happened she ended up being glad she never got me the one she loves that you have! Love, Cody

We had no idea, Tom! We haven't had a scratcher in ages, mainly because some chub sat on it and broke it.

Those scratchers always looked too small to be comfy. But I'm glad you like it so much. You sure seem to fit well on the S-curve.

You know, Tom? We have one of those Ess scratchers and we hardly ever use it. We must be missing out.

We forgot to say that probably the main reason we didn't get a new one, is dad kept tripping over it all the time! 😺

We loved learning about your ESS, Tom! Ava loves to scratch the side of her cat stairs. Gracie is a fan of the carpet. Luckily, ours are not new. :)

We had one on the table upstairs that was always in use but our new one is a bit forlorn and only Miss Fitz uses it for sharpening and not much else. Dad hopes we rediscover it

We have an S scratcher AND a flat cardboard scratcher.
Our favourite thing to destroy, though, is the sofa!
