My friend Bridget has overstayed her welcome. She has taken a liking to one of the parlor chairs and I'm not sure what to do about it, if anything. Out of the blue, too.
Giving her a piece of my mind as she sits on the chair (cover behind hiding claw marks) |
Fortunately, it's an old chair and a donation but still! We're afraid to replace it because she might just continue her bad habit with the brand new furniture!!
Here's where her head is. She thinks a scratcher is for lounging..
So, here I am mancat and all, unable to do much about this situation. The housekeeper started putting some repellent on the furniture, with a label that says heavenly citrus or something like that. I hope it helps.
All for now in this neck of the woods. Have a good week everybody!

Saku is our scratcher here. Mom bean had a couch that he tore up completely. She tried that so-called repellent, he liked it! Having an old chair is a good idea.
We think that Heavenly Citrus sounds interesting. We hope it works.

Tom, may I humbly suggest a different type of scratcher for Ms. Bridget? Angel really likes having a flat surface to scratch on, so we have a Kittyslab for her (available here: http://kittyscratchers.com/) and Da Boyz like vertical scratching, so we have a carpet tube wrapped in sisal rope standing where they can go at it!
Wish I had some good advice, all of our furniture is covered with blankets however - good luck!
Tom, it is hard to get a woman to do what you tell her or listen to advice. I know! (felinecafe.net)
It sounds like you have quite a problem, Father Tom. I hope the repellent works and then maybe she will use the scratcher for it's rightful purpose and not just lounging.
There's nothing you *can* do, Tom. Girls will be girls!
Maybe spray with Feliway instead. It is good to keep cats calm :)
we got 4 scratchers heer....mackerull pre furrz cloth ta card bored...we even tried attachin de card bored ta de effected area...forgetaboutit ☺☺♥♥
Having the scratchable chair is superb an idea. Will she use that? Or is it Tom's only? I may have to get a chair for Katie! She pulls on the carpet but not the furniture and I swear she has more scratchers of every sort available to her.
Hmmm..I don't know about that...my boys were never scratchers so I always permitted them to sit anyplace they wanted. Maybe cover it with a blanket?
We have blankets over the "scratch-worthy" furniture. So far, that seems to have worked!
