Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

Hey, Up Here!

As cats, we love to take naps, sit in windows and gaze out at the world, always reflecting on what it would be like if we ran things. Half asleep and right in the middle of this happy thought--

A rude awakening!

Gasps coming from outside!

I what??

Great Granny's cotton socks, I'm pushing out the screen with my butt and putting a big hole in it?

It was all awfully embarrassing. I tried to look cute because Mom Julie wasn't sure whether to laugh or freak out.

She came inside and reinforced the whole thing so it would be secure. Now, all that was left to do was get upset over the hole, but she figured since she's replacing the screens from our going after bugs and stuff over the years, it was going to be okay.

So, all of me is still in one piece.

Secure in knowing my particular human is running things just fine.

Don't forget! We'll have an excerpt of "High Feather" as our post next week. I'm so excited helping Mom Julie decide which part we'll use. There's a blurb about the book on the sidebar.

I'm so glad she makes me a little cat priest in her stories :)

It's a good thing that Mom Julie saw that screen was loose (it surely wasn't your shapely bottom that made it need reinforcing Tom) - it must have got broken by Notme!

That isn't as as bad as a loud thud would have been! Be careful up there!

Pshew. Good thing someone had your back, Tom.

That would have totally freaked our Mommy out, too. She's a little paranoid bout us. (cod luf)

My mom would have been totally complete;y freaked out cause she never ever wants me out, nor Admiral and she would be afraid I would hurt myself. Good on you, Tom..making her fly upstairs like that. Keep her on her toesies.

Why no, that screen does NOT make your butt look big.. why do you ask?

Our Mommy would have completely freaked out! What a relief that Mom Julie has the screen thoroughly secured now.

Oh my!! I'm glad she fixed the screen so you can nap safely in that window. It does look like a mighty fine place to sleep and enjoy the view, too.

We're sure glad to know that Mom Julie is watching out for you! :)

We're excited to read the excerpt!!!

Have a great weekend, dear friends.

My human is a fanatic about screens! If one is not absolutely secure, that window remains shut until the handyhuman can fix it. I'm not sure if I feel protected or like a prisoner.

Mommy gasped at that sight of you almost falling out of that window!

I got outside through the screen door on our patio. d had to fix it. Now I'm watched like a hawk and they are always checking the screens over.

Somebody needs to invent elastic screens.

Ok, I'm one of the ones who would do the whole freak out thing! But then I had a kitten fall out of the second story because of a faulty screen.. (completely unhurt, just shocked at where he was) In fact, we did't open any upstairs windows for years until the screens were fixed!
We're glad your butt is back on the inside and you're all safe again!!

Be careful there, Father Tom. Waking up half way down to the ground would be a rude awaking for anykittie.

All's well that ends well. I have a feeling Mom Julie got in some good snickers when it was all over - not in your presence, though.

Oh I'm glad your mom saw you there! We put baby gate at window when we open it as one of my boys can easily break the screen!
You look quite comfy in the last photo. I hope you have a very relaxing weekend :-)

All's well that ends well! Glad it's all good for you, and Mom secured your window screen perch. She runs things pretty well, after all, doesn't she. She sure has your safety and well-being in mind. :)

Not that we're laughing or anything....

You know you can get pet-proof screening, right? It's thicker and has sort of a rubbery texture, so it will give instead of tear. We have it on our patio door screen and it's withstood four cats' claws over the past decade+. (The human installed it long before we were born!)

That was pretty funny (but I did not laugh -- much)
I can't wait to read the exerpt! I read the fisrt book and I have eagerly been waiting for the next one!

That's really funny. It wouldn't have been had you fallen out cause of the hole, but what a surprise for your human!

Jen says she can relate. She doesn't raise our windows high because she doesn't want the evil June Buggie to tear them out.

Our person cannot leave our windows open since we just rip them to shreds. So we understand about holes in screens. Hope all of you have a great week.
