Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

It's Not Vinny, but...

Finally, everything is green and leafed out from all the rain. There's actually something to see when I look out into the garden, a few squirrels and birds..

This week, though, I had the shock of my life.

A cat!

Right by the birdbath!

There he was! In the exact spot where Vinny used to sit and stare back at me. Could it be him but in new fur?

We stared at each other for awhile, saying a lot with our eyes. I gave him a happy smile that I was surprised and delighted by his visit. He "told" me he'll be coming by more often now that he knows I'm here. I said I would try to get outside when I could.

I looked away for a minute and when I looked back, he was gone.

Where did he go? I felt tears and turned away from the window. I'll have to keep my paws crossed that he returns. Or, maybe, it's a she? Oopsie, I was so furlustered and excited, I forgot to ask.

Vinny may be sending you a message, or it might be Vinny. The same thing happened here, Sister Sascha has the spirit and soul of one who was here before!

What a beautiful story! I think it must be Vinny but could possibly be known as Vanessa by now. We do have 9 lives. Such an exciting event got a joyful tear out of my eye, too.

You all had some great comments and suggestions. I think we'll leave some food out for him (although I'll tell him to just help himself to a couple of voles) and maybe he'll be a regular visitor.

Or, maybe "she." Fisher, I like Vanessa. I hope to find out more about my new friend.

Hugs & nosetaps to you all,
Tom
