Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

Penny Update and Our First Meeting!

Hi, fellow kitties on this Mancat Monday!

As promised, we have quite the update for you all, including photos..we'll do those first:

She loves Bouncy Mouse...

And then, there's her scratcher (handed down from Bridget and me) with a yummy dusting of nip!

As I mentioned in the last post, Penny was a stray who decided to stay, part Siamese with a beautiful coat that you can see in these photos. She's only 6.2 pounds, very tiny and cute as a button! The housekeeper calls me Grandpa Tom just to make Penny feel safe, hehe, but no worries. I did meet her face-to-face already..

And, it happened by mistake!

We had a problem with our fridge over the weekend and there was a lot of scurrying going on, food taken out, the unit unplugged to thaw and ice put in afterwards. With all the back and forth and the ice being in the sunroom, the door was left open and in I went!!

Penny and I were about a foot apart and she was so sweet, no hissing, just a shy smile.

We received big congrats from the housekeeper, at first worried, but happy everything went well.

Oh, and the fridge has recovered for now, back to the same grunts and noises we've heard all along.

Have a good week, friends!

A New Penny!

We have a little excitement going on here! After following the housekeeper around the yard, a stray kitty has found her way into our home. Her place for the moment is in the sunroom with space to play and sleep and for Bridget and I to get acquainted, at a distance, for now.

We asked around and everyone's kitty was accounted for. One who looked like her  and missing had a phone number that wasn't working. Yes, the housekeeper tried everything to find the parent. You could tell she had been well loved. I wonder sometimes if those of us facing our humans packing and moving don't freak out. Movers, doors propped open, nobody paying attention, and too much going on to notice our disappearance. I've moved once. I hope I never have to do it again.

Anyway, here she is - Penny Waxwing. She's named after birds frequenting out blueberry bushes and because the housekeeper likes bird names for cats. About three years old, she is part Siamese and instead of my going on and on, I'll just share pics of her outside and after she joined Bridget, the housekeeper and me.

Welcome to our home, sweetie pie!

Laser eyes!!!  Had me spellbound!

More about us next week!

Ch-ch-ch-changes..!

Hi, everybody on this Monday..the first week in August,

Mother Nature is about to change her clothes. I'll bet the shift in seasons was never put that way before..hehe...I'm a poet and don't I know it!

Yep, she'll shed her summer apparel and begin wearing reds and yellows and all the bright colors of autumn and the air will have a bit of chill to it..I can't wait!!!

Here you see me bolting out of a sun puddle. In summer these puddles get just a bit too warm for my taste. In autumn and winter, I look for them, move along the floor with them and can't get enough. It's funny how that works.

So, we'll all watch and wait since we really don't have any other choice.
Do your best to stay cool, my friends as Mother Nature continues to heat up the griddle..it won't be long now.

Toodle-loo!!

Picking on Bridget...Again

Happy Monday and thanks for stopping by!

Hope you're all safe..lots of hurricanes hitting landfall and Bridget hopes she's not too late..
She's volunteering herself to hold down roofs, piles of lumber and sheetrock as the winds gust out of control...

Okay...out of the kindness of my pea-pickin' heart, I'll not have this photo any bigger than necessary..AND I admit the camera angle isn't the most flattering, but who can blame me?

Hope you all stay safe with the crazy stuff going on, that you keep the fires burning for those of you having wintry weather and for the rest of us trying to stay cool, let's continue to do our best to batten down the hatches in more ways than one.

Love you all..and yes, Bridget, too.  Come over here, you beautiful baby and give me a smakerooo...

Windowsill Thoughts

Hi and welcome to my Mancat Monday post! (friends are always welcome - this is for people who may come around secretly...I DO have secret admirers, you know, hehe)

Windowsills and gazing out at the world is a great way to go through one's thoughts and ponder why things are the way they are.

Sometimes Bridget joins me in my ponderin'. Then she tells me to shut up. I just ignore her.

This here's been bugging me: Why do we say sunrise and sunset? The sun doesn't move. It's the earth doing all the heavy lifting, yet the sun gets credit and is the topic of poetry and descriptions in fanciful fiction. Oh, and songs...sunrise, sunset..sunrise, sunset..They keep repeating their wrongness!!

There are other things that bug me, but I won't go into those now. I love the sun, as all of us cats do, but the earth with all the trees, birds, and - let's not forget, mice - is pretty special, too.

Have a good week!

Do You Know the Way?

Hi, guys!

I don't know what it is, but Bridget keeps taking over my space here on my...MY blog!

She thinks just because it's her day to be on my Facebook page that it entitles her to be here. Well, not exactly. It's only an unusual circumstance and it involves bugs.

You see, they see her in the window and figure they can stop and ask for directions. Honestly!! We've been keeping a dish full of water down where the chipmunks and groundhogs can reach. The bugs come by, too, like a rest stop or something, and ask for directions to a spot on their particular journey. I don't know how she knows how they get there, but she does..!!!

See me at the other window?? Hehehe

Have a good week, my friends, and if you see bugs, send them to Bridget!

Bridget Goes A-Hunting

Hi, everyone!

Hope you had a good Fourth. Ours was a quiet one. In between naps, I visited friends online, providing my two cents and well wishes in between naps.

Bridget was busy, not taking much to amuse her. She gets all excited when she hears activity under furniture or in the kitchen. It's like she wants in on a world that makes it a point to hide from us.

"Beware!" I cry as she sticks her nose where it probably doesn't belong. She is the curiosityest cat I've ever known. Sometimes, I'll look with her and see nothing. Of course, it gets the housekeeper off her fanny as she comes over and looks, bringing a flashlight.

"There it is!" A web with a tiny bug in it as Bridget swishes her tail with glee. All that fuss over something you can barely see.

Not me. I have better things to do and I've been there, done that. At 11 years old, I'm much more relaxed and take the world in stride. Bridget is only 6 and she's still making discoveries.

The only discoveries I've made are mats, groundhogs out the window, or an occasional bee flying by, asking for directions..hehe

Have a happy Monday, friends!
