Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

Mr. Mad

Lincoln or Washington?

How about Fluffy or Fergus?

That's how much this day means to us cats. We don't get involved in politics, but if we did, we'd have our own heads of state with the national Gotcha Days for us all to celebrate. Now, that's an idea!

Just some rambling thoughts on this Monday. I'm trying to get out of a bad mood. Yes, I, too, get crabby and totally out of character. Doesn't happen very often, but when it does, look out!

So, I think I'll just relax, try to calm down and maybe I'll get special Presidents Day treats, that's if I'm even noticed or like I care..if the housekeeper hauls out the vacuum, I'm going to bite her ankle and hurl after she gets everything nice and clean, ha!

Failing miserably at good cheer,
Tom

Hearts Week *GAG ME*

I know I'm supposed to be gentle and tolerant, but the housekeeper is getting on my nerves with all her hearts all over the place. It started yesterday with my evening meal in the shape of a heart!

I can't wait to see what she does in my litter box! The woman is nuts!

Another bit of heart stuff hanging from a cupboard.

And this which is supposed to be showing Bridget de la Furr and myself.
I have no quarrel with this. It's actually rather sweet, but DO NOT let it be known I said that!

Happy Valentine's Day, efffurybody! It's this coming Thursday and if you go to my Facebook Page every day leading up to the big day of hearts, we'll be adding more of the housekeeper's valentine shenanigans and my two cents!

Yours with all my hearts,

We Have A Situation..

Mancat Monday and I don't feel like much of a mancat today.

My friend Bridget has overstayed her welcome. She has taken a liking to one of the parlor chairs and I'm not sure what to do about it, if anything. Out of the blue, too.

Giving her a piece of my mind as she sits on the chair (cover behind hiding claw marks)

Fortunately, it's an old chair and a donation but still! We're afraid to replace it because she might just continue her bad habit with the brand new furniture!!

Here's where her head is. She thinks a scratcher is for lounging..

So, here I am mancat and all, unable to do much about this situation. The housekeeper started putting some repellent on the furniture, with a label that says heavenly citrus or something like that. I hope it helps.

All for now in this neck of the woods. Have a good week everybody!

Nap Captures

Hi, furries near and far!

Do your loved ones get on your nerves when they take photos constantly?

I swear, nothing is sacred, not for me nor for anyone. It was really embarrassing the other day when the housekeeper caught me with bed head. My fur sticking up all over the place and I not looking my best.

In profile, you can really see it.

She thinks I look cute. I beg to differ. I look compromised.

All for this Mancat Monday..I do believe we should leave sleeping mancats lie.

Truly.

A Nuisance in Fur

It's Monday again!! Despite its lacking in popularity, Monday rolls around again and again..Funny how that is!

Hope efurrybody's doing well. It's been soooooooooooo cold. Not for us cats since a good purr and  warmth for us indoors is a given, but all parts of the country that are usually pretty warm or mild are suffering cold temps. I hope all furries find a warm spot!

We like the sun for warmth more than anything. The housekeeper noticed how the finer details can be picked up by the sun. Here are some closeups of moi - complete with catching that instant when a cat hair takes flight and lands in the annoyingly usual places.

Does anyone know just how many cat hairs we send aloft every day? I was trying to look that up, but I didn't have much success. Oh, well..

What's that noise? Do I hear the vacuum?

Better sign off, then.

Hasta la vista,
Tom

Half Cat - Half Flying Squirrel

Hi, effurybody!

Even if it is Mancat Monday, I think I'll turn over this post to my friend Bridget, showing what a kind, considerate mancat I am. Truth be told, I couldn't wait to show you how amazing she is! Ha!!

Thar she lands! This is the main reason real mice run in terror..she's been practicing going after nip mice!

Definitely ready for the Cat Olympics! We couldn't get a photo of her in the air, she's just too fast. You should see her chase the red dot. She actually catches it!

Very proud of her as any mancat would be.

Only athletic from the sidelines, I am
Purringly yours,
Tom

Let Me Tell You What Really Happened

Hi, everybody - our first Mancat Monday of 2019.
I wonder if anybody else has trouble keying in the new year numbers.
Twice now I've written 2109 for some reason. Probably just me.

Okay, now. I have it on good authority that when the kings arrived to see the Christ Child, it was a madhouse around the manger, since sooo many people had found out about what was going on and there was no crowd control whatsoever back in those days. If that wasn't enough, one of the three kings, Nebuchadenezzar or whatever is name is, was complaining they should have left earlier, then shrieked upon stepping in cow dung. Poor Mary was beside herself.

The Holy Family was only too ready to leave and happy to hear there was a room at the inn finally, but had to decline, just wanting to get away from it all, offering it to the three kings who wound up sharing a king-sized bed (that's where the term came from, I'm sure..)

We hope your New Year's celebration was a darn sight more peaceful. Things have been a little scattered here, please forgive us. We'll be visiting you all a little more conscientiously in the future. (did I really write that word??)

Blessings,
Tom
