Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

Talking to Plants

Sure...the plant isn't saying anything now, but it had a few choice words when I sat down, worse when I actually asked to share the pot! Why are plants such sun hogs?

Especially since we have much in common--we both are cared for, talked to, and fed. No, they don't have fur any more than I have leaves. Such a silly thought! Imagine a cat covered in leaves..

I'd rather look through leaves like I'm doing here. I forgot the name of this plant, but we checked it out when we bought it years ago and it's harmless for kitties. Oh, I forgot..plants are given names like we are. Another thing in common!

Now, mind you, I'm never naughty or do anything inappropriate in the pot since it's my cozy place to curl up and all. Of course, right now, you're wondering where I'm going with all of this.

Today, after I was done with the sun, I jumped out and guess what?

The plant had dropped a leaf right into Tinker's shadow. Between that and the full wolf moon, spring must be right around the corner!

~~~
Mom Julie's birthday really brought to mind all the thoughts about aging. Reminds me of the time a purrfect stranger came up to me and asked, "How old are you?" I replied, " As old as Methuselah and as young as a kitten on my good days." He looked at me kinda strange, then said, "I don't know who this Methtthzzzzzzloooshelahala guy is, but if you can act like a kitten any time you feel like, then it doesn't matter how old you are."
Good thinking.
Hugs,
Tom
What a fun post! Definitely one of my favorites. Our plants are kept way up high because Rosie has been known to do inappropriate things to the plants.
It does look like a comfy place to sleep ...and you are right, I hope spring will arrive soon.
Your pal, Pip
We never heard of a wolf moon before, but we looked it up. How interesting! We are now going to use that as an excuse for all of our crazy behavior this weekend.
We hope that plant wasn't rude to you - we hope you chewed one if its leaves!
We loves the full moons! I hope we can see it, it is so cloudy and snowy. Mom says she loves the picture with you just peeking out through the leaves. She says you look quite handsome!
Sometimes those plants just gotta be in the way of a good sunpuddle, they can't help themselves!
Are you sure your plant isn't covered with furs? ;)
We don't have indoor plants anymore. For some strange reason, they keep developing strange holes in them. MOL.
How nice of that plant to share its pot with you, even if it does so begrudgingly, MOL. It looks like a fine place to curl up for a nap.
That looks like an umbrella plant - my human loves them, but between her ability to kill even the hardiest plants and my penchant for gnawing on them, one probably would not do too well here.
Since the "incident" with the maidenhair fern, we have become rather wary of indoor plants!! Love the meth oooooz … story :)
Yep, you are only as old as you feel like being. So, be a kitten and play away.
Great post! :) We always check out plants and flowers before we bring them home too, Tom. We can't have anything that might hurt our four wonderful kitties. The Full Wolf Moon. We are eagerly awaiting it here. Happy Weekend!
This was a fun post... : )
Glogirly has NO talent with the green plants. None at all. Would you believe all we have is a giant bunch of dried curly willow branches stuck in a pot in the corner of the TV room? ...the cobwebs are doing just fine. Guess she CAN grow something after all!
Happy belated bday to Mom Julie! XO
Yes, aging gets us all, from plants to cats to people. Coincidentally, I just wrote a post about aging, specifically the age of my oldest cat, Tungsten. It saddens me that she is getting older, but I realise that each day that she ages is a day I get to spend with her. And that's some compensation.
Thanks for stopping by our bloggie. My Mom says they used to have a plant like that one and it was so terrific. She cannot remember why it declined or died - presumably neglect. Then they went through an Elephant Ear plant stage. Now they are in a Christmas Cactus and spider plant phase. Keeping all the plants in the house in the winter is tough.
We hope Mom Julie had a super birthday!
Tom, you look mighty handsome in that pot. We have one of those Shefflera plants too, but my kittehs never sit in it. I think they're one of those Methuselah types.
