Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

Mr. Oblivious

No matter what goes on around me, I can sleep right through it. My totally calm repose is really funny sometimes, and I was thinking it might be something to try in my post for this week.

Here we go:

::door slams:: "I can't start the car. Where is the number for triple A? What do you mean our membership's expired?"

::phone rings and rings:: "Who the heck is that? It's not even eight o'clock in the morning yet!!"

                                              !!!!!!!!::woman screams on TV::!!!!!!!!!

"Oh, my God, did you see what they did to that guy? And, he's getting away!!!"

::sounds of leaf blower, lawn mower and chain saw in the woods:: "What is this? What happened to Sunday being a day of rest, for pete's sake?"

"@!!*#*&^! Where's my other sock?  Why can't I find my sock? I'm late, late, LATE!!"

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz..........

Well, furriends, that's what goes on around me. I still haven't figured out, with all the stress humans are under, why it is they live longer than we do and we only stick around for about fifteen to twenty years..

Hmmm....

We can't figure it out, either, frankly.

Derry's impressed you can sleep through all that, though. :-)

Why Tom, you are absolutely right and really, i have about the same reaction here at my home. My mom really enjoyed this blog and was smiling all along. She still is! She loves the examples you stated. So accurate.

Hahaha I wish I could sleep like you :-) Humans need to learn how to relax from kitties! But it s a very good question, why humans live longer with all these stresses...

You know the one noise I find disturbing beyond belief? My human's loud, ear-piercing, annoying laughter! I run out of the room when she is watching a comedy!

Wow Tom! I sure am impressed with your ability to get lots of healthy shut-eye! Sometimes it's not that easy for me. (My doctor said it has something to do with those hormone things and my age.) :) I'm a little jealous of you. Have a happy, relaxing weekend! Hugs!

Sheesh, you ARE a sound sleeper. Scouty wants to know where he can turn off his hair trigger.

Skootch here:
Wish I had your calm. I jump at everything, especially the doorbell. You, on the other hand, have mastered the art of serenity and repose. I envy you...........

yes, but I bet you would jump right up if someone opened up some food ;)

You are quite the sleeper, Tom. The only one of us like that was Shady (and she snored...do you?)
Mom says the rest of us just don't want to be left out of anything.

Enjoy your zzzzzzzz's, MOL

Sometimes when the humans are going crazy, we'll open one eye...just to see what's going on...but then we're back to sleep again.

You are one cool customer, Tom! Our humans could definitely learn a lot from you. :)

Hugs to you, Tinker, Mitty, Anastasia and the Mom!

Tom, I think you must hold the record for the most calm! Cats can be much calmer than the humans, but we always thought of it as being more sophisticated. Maybe that's a little too pompous.

I think you've got something there, Tom. Maybe you should start teaching a course on 'calm'...I'll send Mom over.

Calm is the best. We all need to learn that lesson. But it is hard to do when too much is going on. You kitties know just how to do it.
Take care.

Wise and wonderful Father Tom!! Me and Charlie think you have the bestest attitude ever! Yay! Take care

The folks could take a few clues from the furries about chilling out couldn't they. I am glad that you didn't let anything disturb your well deserved rest.

You, Tom, are a champion napper!
Things are crazy around here too!
Mom's needing to be in 6 places at once and gets cranky when she can't nap.
She's going to try to write to mom Julie this week. Doctor on Monday.

You're one cool customer! I OTOH am not. If I hear noise in the hall, I shoot UTB. I tense up when TW goes into one of her crying fits. However, noise outside the window doesn't bother me.
