Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

Braveheart

Good Cod, I'm about to go out of my mind!

There's too much cleaning, scrubbing, packing, tossing (fortunately not any of us, hehe) as we started preparing the house for sale this week. In the middle of all that, we had a shock!

It was a few days ago.

Tinker had posted himself in front of the blue cube in the computer room. It sat empty, but he wouldn't move..

Mom Julie thought nothing of it. He always sets himself somewhere, pretends to watch something and then goes off to Dreamland.

Not this time.

Eyes big as saucers, he was frozen in place.

Then, Mom Julie decided to move the cube.

Dun-dun-dun-dun...

Holy ***XX@@@@SSS**%%!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a SNAKE!!

IN THE HOUSE!!

"Pardon me, boys, is that the cat that took the choo-choo?"

OMC--how did he get in??

He was just a little guy, but he was long, and squiggly and SCARY!!

What to do??

Mom Julie took off the screen to the window, opened it, put a sock over her hand (you can't make this stuff up), and picked him up and flung him outside.

Just a garter snake, but still a shock to see him in the house. Fortunately, there are no poisonous snakes in Maine, but the ones that are around, you don't want to get on their bad side..:)

Now she's worried about him. She hopes he's going to be okay. Sheesh.

The Big Puss made up a story that he chased the snake away, but I know the truth!

Fibber!!

All for this week, my furriends,

Tom "sure glad I dodged that one" the Church Cat

Good grief, you certainly do lead an exciting life. M said if she found a snake in our house, she'd be moving out right then and there without furniture. She thinks Julie was very very brave to pick up that snake with only a sock on her hand. icky!!!Now, did I miss something? Are you moving pal?

OMC, OMC! Our human would have FREAKED. It was enough to have that Eastern Milksnake in our garden a few summers ago...but a snake in the house?!

Our mom's not afraid of snakes (the benign ones, she means), but there's no way on this earth she wants one in the house. LOL.

Well done to you and to Julie!

Oh nooooo snake in the house!! How scary! Glad it is not poisonous. I wonder how he got in the house, too.
Maybe Tinker chased it away in his dreamland :-)

You're selling the church?? Whoa! See my peeps ignore me when I stare at something but then they found out we had all kinds of moths. That'll teach them to ignore me.

WOW, that would have been so much fun!

A garter snake - how awesome! My human recognized it right away, since she had a few as pets when she was a kitten. I wish we had that type of excitement here - except the main snakes here are rattlers, and you DEFINITELY don't want those in or near your house!

You stood guard and that snake wouldn't move.
We had a snake in our house, unfortunately it was poisonous.
Mom (yep MOM) killed it and saved all of us kitties.

Our mom likes snakes cause they eat things she doesn't like, like mousies. But that's why she has us we thought!

BTW, Lewes DE is pretty cool. We like to go to the beach there at Cape Henlopen. You can see WWII gun bunkers along the beach and concrete observation towers used to look for U boats. Its a pleasant day trip for us.

Way to go Tinker! My Mom likes snakes, but she sure wouldn't want one in the house. I am glad that your Mom just put it outside. Garter snakes are good for the garden. They eat the bugs that eat the flowers and veggies. I hope your move isn't too much of a hassle.

Wow, good job, Tinker! Way to let everyone know that you had a snake in your house. Mom Julie ... we're impressed by your resourceful use of that sock. And we're sure the snake will be okay. :)

Hope the house sells quickly, and that all is well.

Hugs to you all!!!

That makes me laughs! My Daddy is a scared of snakes and my Hissy Old Licorice used to bring them in the house just so he could see Daddy scream! Mommy is not afraid of snakes though, she always picks them up and takes them outside.

Good time to sell the house with Mr. Nasty Snake living there. EEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKK! I don't like the snakes. Is he staying with the new owners when they buy?
Thanks for stopping by and leaving the mom birthday wishes for her special day!

MOL, laughing at Furkidsmom comment. Our Mom hates snakes too. What a good boy Tinker to alert everyone that the snake was there. It is just amazing what cats can hear and see. Thanks for your good wishes for Mahoney. We are going this afternoon to the vet.
