Tom's Short Story

As everyone knows, we had a "Take Your Pet to Work Day."

There was only one problem. My writer human got confused. She thought it was "PUT Your Pet to Work." I didn't know any different. My not-a-care-in-the-world life turned into a day-long sweatshop.

I'm so disgusted, tired and overworked. I didn't get my break--okay, breaks. My lunch was late. I couldn't snack. There were no toys. All I did all day long was work, work, work.

Finally, after being hunched over the keyboard, suffering from catmal toenail sin-drome, editing over and over with only a bowl of holy water for sustenance, my short story was finished. And, when I say short, I mean cat short.

Here it is:

Once upon a time in a cat box far, far away, there lived a gnome. He was lucky because the box he lived in was always kept immaculately clean. He didn't know why, but he liked living in gravel. He was about the size of cat poop. Only trouble was, when the box was cleaned, he was scooped out, too. He didn't know what to do. Then, he got a bright idea. He would wear a bright, red hat! That way, he would be undisturbed.

That's why, to this day, gnomes wear little red hats!

What do you think?

Father's Day

Father's Day is Sunday, Tom.

That's right!

I thought we could give Father Will a book and Jack a pipe.

He smokes a pipe, now?

Yes, it's on his bucket list--something he always wanted to try.
What do you think?

Give me that bad boy.

Cats don't smoke pipes, Tom. Besides, there's no tobacco.

Can I play with it, maybe?

Or, give the stem a good bite, isn't that what they say?

Yes, Tom. Or, I can scratch you with it.

Ooh, right there...thaaaat's it!

Tom Talking to Hymnself

I try to be a good cat. I don't always make it to every single Mass, but that's all right because Will and Jack say I've become too much of a distraction when people want to pray. I love how issues come out of nowhere! Anyway, so I run in and out of the pews, jump on laps during the sermon (which is welcome, believe me), but that's just enhancing the worship experience, I say.

I personally think people should pray wherever they happen to be. Like this kitty. I know he was saying his prayers!

Brave kitty!

It's Not Vinny, but...

Finally, everything is green and leafed out from all the rain. There's actually something to see when I look out into the garden, a few squirrels and birds..

This week, though, I had the shock of my life.

A cat!

Right by the birdbath!

There he was! In the exact spot where Vinny used to sit and stare back at me. Could it be him but in new fur?

We stared at each other for awhile, saying a lot with our eyes. I gave him a happy smile that I was surprised and delighted by his visit. He "told" me he'll be coming by more often now that he knows I'm here. I said I would try to get outside when I could.

I looked away for a minute and when I looked back, he was gone.

Where did he go? I felt tears and turned away from the window. I'll have to keep my paws crossed that he returns. Or, maybe, it's a she? Oopsie, I was so furlustered and excited, I forgot to ask.
