Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

A Stubborn Mate

Hi, all!

Yesterday the temperatures nosedived and I mean down the nose!!

We were all cozy and warm but keeping an eye on the outside temps, relieved it was still around 32 degrees. In the morning 32, mid-day 32, evening 32 degrees. Same temp. Didn't move.

We got suspicious.

This morning. Again, 32 degrees.

We finally came to the conclusion that after the warm spell we had last week, the temperature gauge has stubbornly decided it is NOT going back to single digits. No way. No how. Not even under threat of the rack - that is if they have such torture for temperature gauges.

We just won't know how cold it is right outside the window.

We'll live with that, just telling ourselves it's 32 degrees. Not zero. Not minus 5. Not 10.

Sound good?

This is Mancat Monday and as ever, I am

Holy and hearty
Your obedient servant,

Tom Fishworthy ^..^

That works for us. Now if we could just get that gauge to say 72! :)

Isn't it funny how cold can really be warm sometimes?!?!

We sit outside in the morning sun in our catio today. That is how we determine the weather here--go out in it and find out. Sorry it is cold for you today, but what do you expect in January?

That's odd, that the thermometer froze at the freezing point. Symbolic, even.

We truly believe you can think yourself warm, Tom!

We only wish it was that easy, Tom. :)

When asked, I always give my age as 21. Celsius. Same principle.

Hi, Tom, you gorgeous thing, you. Lucy still drools when I mention your name and Sam says to her, "Ok, ok, I know he's gorgeous, but don't forget who's sitting right next to you and holding your favorite toy, ha".
Temps here have still been bitter but my newest, Happy, is truly a snow cat -- LOVES the snow and leaps through it, looping his tail high and snapping at falling snowflakes. A sight to behold for sure. BUT, too cold to stay out long and freeze the feet, so he races like the wind to get back in...for 20 min and it's like that all day. Warm days are coming this weekend! In the 50's! The excitement around here is like Christmas coming. Can't wait!
Purrs and nuzzles from all of us to you and your Julie Xoxoxo
