Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

Mr. Oblivious

No matter what goes on around me, I can sleep right through it. My totally calm repose is really funny sometimes, and I was thinking it might be something to try in my post for this week.

Here we go:

::door slams:: "I can't start the car. Where is the number for triple A? What do you mean our membership's expired?"

::phone rings and rings:: "Who the heck is that? It's not even eight o'clock in the morning yet!!"

                                              !!!!!!!!::woman screams on TV::!!!!!!!!!

"Oh, my God, did you see what they did to that guy? And, he's getting away!!!"

::sounds of leaf blower, lawn mower and chain saw in the woods:: "What is this? What happened to Sunday being a day of rest, for pete's sake?"

"@!!*#*&^! Where's my other sock?  Why can't I find my sock? I'm late, late, LATE!!"

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz..........

Well, furriends, that's what goes on around me. I still haven't figured out, with all the stress humans are under, why it is they live longer than we do and we only stick around for about fifteen to twenty years..

Hmmm....

Don't Touch That Dial

I let Mom Julie make up the titles to my blog and I'm not sure I really know what she means by that. I think it's a human expression having to do with TV in ancient times.

Anyhow, besides the commercials on human TV, we cats also watch a little bird TV

Although sometimes they're in black and white

Always more appetizing easier to see in winter without the leaves

I sure could use a bib as I drool all over myself watching them

Then, there's butterfly TV

We don't want to forget squirrel/chipmunk TV but we couldn't find the channel at the moment, hehe..

And then..there's Fox News!

Isn't he/she cute?  A little bigger than we are, but not by much. Grey foxes don't bother kitties, just critters much smaller. And, you know what? Aesop was right. They do eat grapes! (when they can reach them, that is :) Mom Julie throws out bread every now and then and we get a visit. I really love this channel!

So, there you have it. We don't need a signal, don't need a dish, and don't need a dial or remote. We kitties are easily entertained and if the windows/doors are open, that's even better!

Hugs and a restful weekend to everyone.

Mr. Snakey Exercise (Huff, Puff!)

Forget paw-lates.

Our Anastasia has busted her buttons from all the good life weight she's gained. What makes it worse is she's not one to exercise or play. We couldn't get her interested in chasing a flashy ball, nom anything catnip, or chase mousies...

UNTIL

Mr. Snakey!

Desperate to get her interested in something, Mom Julie had a toy fishing rod lying around and attached an old collar to it. It had a bell, so it made noise as she swung it around Anastasia's head and..

She went crazy!

She just had to get him, over and over again!

Everything was going so well--then..

Oh, no!

She stopped.

Flat-out, I'm done, don't-bother-me-I'm eating-now, finished.

Can you believe it?

She says she worked up an appetite!

Let me have at that bad boy!

Hope you have a happy, toy-filled weekend!

A Cat Lullaby (Sorta)

Here's my fur fun-filled version of a familiar lullaby (not that we need anything to help us sleep)

Rock-a-bye baby on the cat bed
You're all stretched out, happy and fed

When you're awake, we'll play again

Tiddlies or winkies or mousies say when

Rock-a-bye baby, you're still not awake?
You're missing the fun, for heaven's sake!

After what's turning into one lazy day,
Next stop is the window and I'll lead the way.

Have a great weekend, everybody!

Saturday Scribbling

I love pencils.

Being a cat with many toes, I can almost hold one.

Mom Julie saw me with a pencil the other day and grabbed her camera to capture my success if I was able to do it.

First I had to get a good hold

Again, a good hold

Oops, dropped it on the floor. For pete's sake, would you put the camera down and get my pencil, please?

Okay, let me try it this way

Guess not. Oooh, this eraser sure tastes good!

Never mind. I'll just have to practice when I don't have that flashy thing to make me nervous!
