Notes from a parish cat and his author Julie Mackenzie

My photo
I am Father Tom Fish, esteemed member of the religious team at Temptation of Christ Parish in the novels by author Julie Mackenzie. As to my background, I was invited into the rectory as a stray, laid on the charm, and was invited to stay, even honorarily ordained and no less spiritual than my sidekick Father Will. He dotes on me to high heaven and forgives all of my street cat proclivities, whatever the hell that means.

That Time of Year Again

Each year my cheer is dwindled
I feel my joie is swindled
I can't endure
For this I'm sure
My spirit has been Kindled.

You're right. I don't like Lent. I do my best, though, in the spirit of the season.

So--the question is: What does a cat in my position give up for Lent?  Sardines?  Dogs?

Here are some of the things I was asking myself:

Should I give up--

The comfort of a purse?

 My drawer?

Should I try to hold my tongue?

Give up my balance beam? (I can't look!)

That's it.

I give up.

I can't decide.

And, I know I should, being a parish cat and all...

Come to think of it, there are some people around here who don't have to give up anything.

(Someone this cute shouldn't have to!!)

Here's what I think ...give up, trying to give something up!

Giving up Tempations somehow would be fitting for a parish cat. LOL.

But that's rather dire. We like Mr. Pip's take on it!

pfffft - If your oomans don't give up anything for lent, then why should you be deprived!! You could give up lap sitting - yes that's it - deprive your oomans of having you sit in their lap during lent! Then you will both be giving up something. he he

Oh Mitty, you are so darn cute. You sure don't have to give up anything. Sure glad to see you are such good friends with that doggie. Tom, we think that you really don't have to give up anything except maybe the purse. You are such a handsome boy. Take care all of you.

If all the peeps aren't giving up things, I really don't think it's fair for you to have to do so. I wouldn't worry 'bout it too much.

Mommy wants to snorgle that tummy of yours but she is going to give up on that for Lent. :)

We cats don't have to give up anything. We're exempt. I'm surprised being a church cat you didn't know that. HAH!

Surely Jesus wouldn't want someone as sweet as you to give up anything.

How about just throwing your paws in the air and saying, "I give up!" Is that good enough?

Tom you are so funny. I know someone who gave up Lent, but I am not sure you are allowed to do that. Oh dear. I should not have suggested That!

It is such a hard decision. Maybe you should sleep on it.

Uh Tom, I thinks you should give up the purse (but it's just my opinion)...And Mitty, I see, is giving up his tummy...for a rubs! Great post and pictures!

Gigi said...

Yeah, I'm with Cloon. Lose the purse. I bet you can find something WAY more satisfying to sleep on--like that dog, maybe? Ha ha ha ha ha!

Besides, I don't think cats have to give up anything--it's the Humans that do the sinning, right? The Kittiehs has always been purrfect.
